Hello everyone! This is the first book by famous German children's book author Max Kruse, who celebrated his ninetieth birthday on Saturday. Der Löwe ist los (Thienemann) was originally published in 1952. Kruse is a son of doll maker Käthe Kruse and sculptor Max Kruse. Today I took some snapshots of the charming illustrations by Horst Lemke, who illustrated books by Erich Kästner and Astrid Lindgren as well. More ingenious pen and ink drawings from the artist here.
