Fairy Tales by TASCHEN

This is my favourite of their current program27 Brothers Grimm fairy tales, based on the final 1857 edition: Sleeping Beauty, Hansel and Gretel, Little Red Riding Hood ... It's so beautifully illustrated and so interesting to read with a foreword on the Grimms' legacy, brief introductions to every tale, and extended artists' biographies. Each fairy tale has its "own" artist, including some of the most famous illustrators from the 1820s to the 1950s, among them Kay Nielsen, Gustav Süs, Walter Crane, Arthur Rackham

Little Red Riding Hood (Rotkäppchen), illustrated by Divica Landrová, Czech Republic, 1959
I really love Landrová's silhouettes. She puts the cutouts for Little Red Riding Hood against grey-white structured background as it is known from the early cartoons.
Do you know the silhouette films by Lotte Reiniger? Here is a wonderful You Tube one explaining her technique. (She is such a cute lady.)

The book also contains gorgeous silhouettes by Dora Polster, who illustrated the Brother Grimm fairy tales in 1911 (100 years ago!).
Sleeping Beauty (Dornröschen), illustrated by Herbert Leupin, Swiss, 1948
