Iela and Enzo Mari: The Apple and the Butterfly

Another classic, originally published in Italy in 1969 as "La Mela e la Farfalla". Simple and striking pictures, no words. More about famous Italian designer Enzo Mari here and here. More great books by Iela Mari via Babalibri. The good thing with wordless books is that it doesn't matter where they have been published, they work all internationally. I ordered this one in Spanish.

Tana Hoban: Count and See

I discovered her books recently via Les Trois Ourses and immediately fell in love with them. I'm looking for more titles, so this certainly won't be my last post with one of her many books. They are all great!
A bit more about her: Before she became an award-winning author and children's book creator in the 1970ies Tana Hoban's photographs have been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in 1949 and were on the covers of several magazines. For her books Tana Hoban used photographs of objects from every day life. Her approach to explore the world to children by introducing concepts such as counting, colores and textures while using everyday scenes was considered revolutionary. Tana Hoban dies in 2006 at the age of 88. She lived in Paris for 23 years.

William Steig: Shrek!

An addition to the last post just because it's such a funny cover. Shrek! by William Steig. This is the original cover of the picture book (1990) which inspired the film series.

William Steig: Persistent Faces

I was lucky to find this classic recently for very little money. A book of caricatures by famous William Steig published in 1945. Unfortunately the book jacket is missing, but it's great anyway.
