Neue Werkstatt

Such a great catalogue and design. Neue Werkstatt has been founded by graphic designer Moritz Fuhrmann and product designers Peter Kraft and Jochen Maria Weber. Their Manifest comprises the values on which their clean and minimalistic designs are based on. You could order it here as pdf: "Our products are simple and reticent. It is not our intention to make just beautiful forms. We are concentrated on function, comprehensibility, ecology and durability."

Studio Fludd: Gelatology - Change and Persistence

Here is the forth and final great title of Studio Fludd's self-publishing collection Ephemera & Miscellanea: Gelatology, a collectively illustrated fanzine. Check out the limited series of risograph prints as well.

"This booklet explores visual and conceptual analogies between ice-cream and geology. Semifreddo cakes, rocky cones and creamy desserts in vibrant colours are models of cause-effect relations and incredibly slow transformations. The mixed media technique attempts to evoke the layering of experiences and the metamorphosis of our states of mind."

I wrote about Studio Fludd before here.

Milimbo: Pulgarcito

It seems as if almost every publisher is at the Frankfurt Book Fair right now, but there are still some publishing houses with novelties to promote beyond the world's largest book fair. Last year in October I wrote about their lovely book Cinderella, now Spain studio/publisher Milimbo released another great picture book telling a fairy tale in pictures without text. It's Tom Thumb by Charles Perrault and it comes with a map folded and placed in the back where Tom Thumb's silhouette becomes a labyrinth and a little figure of Tom helps us to walk into the labyrinth and find the exit. The intense and impressive illustrations are by Giovanna Ranaldi who used mainly the "esgrafiado" technique (sgraffito) to visualize the dark story with a happy end.

Visit their websiteblogpinterest and etsy with much more to discover including their wonderful cardboard games. Take a look for yourself!
